Dear Father, who have kept me safe this night,

I thank You through Your Son, my life and light,

And ask that You would keep me too this day

From all that harms and makes a sinner stray. 

 

Give me the will to do as pleases You,

Remembering that Your Son makes all things new;

Keep me a branch in Him, the precious Vine,

Through whom You make Your Holy Spirit mine. 

 

Teach me to pray for all that You would give,

That I with faith and thankfulness receive

Your Word and faith by which alone I see

The blessings You so richly pour on me.

 

Defend me from false doctrine and from doubt,

All cowardice and laziness cast out,

That I may trust the Word You have declared,

And walk in works You have for me prepared.

 

Forgive me, as You teach me to forgive,

And in the test, by grace, God, let me live,

Until the day when evil is no more

And I awake to praise You evermore.
