Jesus, Israel’s Holy One
A Hymn of Confession

Tune: Meinem Jesum lass’ ich nicht (LSB 609
1 Jesus, Israel’s Holy One,
God, to whom we all must render
Full account for what we’ve done;
Christ, compassionate and tender,
Don’t rebuke me in Your wrath;
Do not give me up to death.
2 For I know my sins, O Lord,
They are more than I can number;
And your Word’s sharp two-edged sword
Will not let me rest or slumber
While my conscience knows the shame
I have brought upon Your name.
3 What is man that You would care
Whether I am dead or living?
Who am I that You would bear
All my guilt, my sin forgiving?
I have nothing good in me;
Nothing valuable to see.
4 Yet I know You took on flesh,
Joined Yourself to Your creation;
Born of virgin, pure and fresh,
Made true man for man’s salvation
All to suffer and to die
While remaining God most high.
5 There I find my only God,
As I humbly bow, repentant;
There in perfect flesh and blood
There is Abraham’s descendent,
Who through faith does justify
All who on His grace rely.
6 Where the darkness clouds around,
There the Light of Light is shining;
Where the whole world’s sin is found
There my soul’s at rest, reclining
In the wounds of Christ my God,
Living from his flesh and blood.
7 Who believes in him has passed
Out of death to life eternal;
Judgment has already past;
Soon begin the joys supernal
That will lift out of the dust
All who in their Savior trust.
