Lord Jesus, Come, The Wine is Gone
Tune: Ach bleib bei uns, Herr Jesu Christ (TLH 292)
Lord Jesus, come! The wine is gone,
And what has all our worry won,
But further need, and greater grief
For which You only give relief.
And if Your hour has not come,
Then let us not to doubt succumb,
But know Your promises are sure –
Forever shall Your Word endure!
Yes, let Your promises remain
Beneath the cross and in our pain;
Though weeping may endure the night,
Yet joy will come with morning’s light.
Dear Sun, now shine into our hearts
With joy Your holy Word imparts,
And hear the prayers we offer You,
Who took our flesh to make it new.
Though for a while You hide Your face,
The clouds cannot Your truth erase;
In Your good hour Your grace will shine
And water will be turned to wine.
What mercy do You show us here
By making joy from need appear,
So that my faith may strengthened be,
And after grief Your glory see?
Dear Church’s Bridegroom and her Lord,
Who for her life Your blood outpoured,
Shed now in wine the blood we need,
That always will for sinners plead.
Dear Jesus, enter now each home,
And for each Christian’s sorrow come
To teach us by Your first great sign
That You change water into wine.
All glory be to God who gives
The faith that Jesus’ grace receives,
That we, beneath our every cross,
May look to Christ and know no loss.
