Soon the Sadness Shall Be Over

Trinity 27 / Last Sunday of the Church Year

1 Soon the sadness shall be over,

Soon my eyes will see Your face,

And the sins which You now cover

You forever shall erase;

Soon the joy I know by faith

Shall surpass the pain of death,

When the Lamb in clouds of glory

Puts an end to sorrow’s story.

2 I shall fear no judgment’s terror,

Christ has covered all my guilt;

All my sins and all my error

Washed away in blood He spilt.

I shall stand in gleaming white,

Pure and righteous in His sight

And in love shall kneel before Him,

And with all His saints adore Him.

3 I will see what He has spoken,

I shall see the end of sin;

For His word shall stay unbroken

At the gates we enter in.

All the saints of every year

In pure glory shall appear,

And shall sing our one salvation

In a full and new creation.

4 Now I wait with hopeful spirit,

With my lamp replete with oil,

With my faith in Jesus’ merit

Through all suffering, shame and toil;

Now I wait for whom I love

Till the trumpet sounds above,

And the Church shall join her Savior

At the wedding feast forever.
