The Poor Are Those Who See in Them No Wealth
All Saints
The poor are those who see in them no wealth,
The mourners those who see in them no health,
The meek are the humble, oppressed by sin,
Who hunger for what they can’t find within.
Theirs is the kingdom where God’s mercy reigns,
Theirs will be comfort greater than their pains,
Theirs is the earth where righteousness will dwell,
And theirs the righteousness that quenches hell.
So let this mourner mercy now impart;
In tears, by faith, Lord, purify my heart,
Against the rage of sin Your peace bestow,
And when I feel the cross Your kingdom show
Where mercy will show God’s own face to me,
And I, God’s son, His heaven’s kingdom see.
