The Resurrection and the Life

Tune: Du Friedenfürst
For TH
1 The Resurrection and the Life
Are You, my only Lord;
In sin and sadness and in strife
I trust Your Holy Word,
Which will remain
When ends death’s pain
And I behold Your glory.
2 I do not mourn in vain, I know,
Since those who die in You,
Soon brighter than the sun will glow
When You make all things new,
And I will be
Eternally
With all Your saints in heaven.
3 The weight of grief here can’t compare
With joy I soon will feel,
When I no more my cross must bear,
When You by grace reveal
The fruit I’ll own
From tears I’ve sown
By faith in You, my Savior.
4 I thank You for the ones You gave
To teach the truth to me,
So when I gaze upon their grave,
I still Your promise see:
Your child’s not dead,
But, as You said,
A little while is sleeping.
5 Since You bore every sinner’s guilt,
And, dying, conquered death,
And poured on me the blood You spilt
To gave me life through faith,
In hope I live
By life You give
From Your own resurrection.
6 Your voice shall pierce the depths of earth,
And what was dust and ash
Will know Your promised heavenly birth
In painless perfect flesh;
The earth will quake,
When we awake
To stand in joy beside You!
7 When soon I see You with Your saints
Who trusted You till death;
When this weak flesh in weakness faints,
Lord Jesus, take my breath!
You are the joy
Death can’t destroy,
My Life, My Resurrection!
