To God My Maker Now I Bow

Tune: Vater unser (LSB 766)

1 To God my Maker now I bow

For mercy that I know He’ll show,

For pardon for the guilt I feel,

For righteousness he will reveal

Through faith in Him who died for me

To take my sin and set me free.

2 As many as the ocean’s sands

Are sins I’ve done by my own hands,

Are thoughts that stray from what is true,

Desires that into evil grew –

My sin I cannot estimate,

Nor truly understand my fate.

3 But on the cross where Jesus died

I see the God whom I defied,

I see the wickedness in me

Placed on His body on the tree;

I see what all my sin has done -

It killed God’s one and only Son.

4 Yet in that that death that shows my sin,

I find the peace of sinful men,

I find where all my guilt was laid

And where my debt was fully paid

By blood so precious and pure

It is of all my sin the cure.

5 And as he lives, who once was dead,

I live in Him who is my Head,

And grafted in his flesh through faith,

I fear nor sin nor hell nor death,

His righteousness I claim my own,

And worship Him before His throne.

6 There every sinner finds his Friend,

The true Beginning and the End,

The purpose of our lives on earth,

Th’ eternal, holy, second birth,

That raises us in Him to trust

Who soon shall raise us from the dust.
